Steam Locomotive Specific Components

Rising costs for skilled labor, raw materials, fuel, etc. all impact your bottom line when it comes to running a profitable operation. Huffman Machining Solutions is dedicated to providing the best components for your locomotive restoration or project to help reduce some of your restoration expenses. Below is list of just some of the components we are capable of producing for your project. 

It is not uncommon for locomotives with flexible staybolts to need new sleeves and caps during 5 year cap inspections and/or 1,472 Day/15 year overhauls. We can produce new caps and sleeves in any quantity, made from domestically sourced spec A105/A675 steel bar (with MTRs) to original Flannery or ALCO specifications. All types of caps and sleeves are available upon request, see below for examples. 

Cylinder cocks are a vital part to your locomotive, but are often neglected. We can reverse engineer and produce new components for your specific cylinder cock design that will last for decades to come. We currently have designs for Okadee and Prime type cylinder cocks operated via air or steam.

Injectors are a vital part to every steam locomotive, and it is imperative that they work without issue. Overtime, injector components can become worn, steam cut, and damaged beyond acceptable limits. We can work with you to create new internal and external components for your lifting or non-lifting injectors from a variety of materials. 

Brand new Prime-Alemite style button head fittings for hard grease applications for locomotive side rods. New bodies and internals will be provided, as well as replacement parts. (More details coming in late 2023.) 

Plumbing a new pressure gauge or lubrication system on your locomotive? Cant find the type of fitting you need off the shelf or readily available? We can help you design and create custom fittings for your application; whether they require a special thread or specific material. These fittings also meet Schedule 80 wall thickness requirements and can be adapted for use in other applications as well.
